Urban shepherds required in local area!
Come and join our team of local volunteer livestock checkers!
The Old Surrey Downs Project has around 200 conservation grazing animals helping maintain our chalk grassland - sheep, goats, ponies and cattle. At the moment we are grazing 13 different sites, and we always need new volunteers to help us by checking the animals.
We are looking for new stock checkers for sites in Caterham (Manor Park) and Chaldon (Park Ham), as well as sites in Woldingham, Chipstead Valley and Banstead.
The role requires a commitment of one day a week, usually for around an hour a day. Unfortunately no expenses are offered, but we do provide free informal training before starting, and there is a member of staff on call 24 hours a day as support.
Becoming an urban shepherd will keep you fit, as there is always an element of walking involved! You do not need experience with animals (although some is preferable) as we can show you what to do, but an interest in nature conservation is essential!
If you think you would like to become a volunteer with the Old Surrey Downs Project, please contact Kate Mayo on 01883 341140.
